We work to uphold the equal enjoyment of human rights and civil liberties in an open, secular society and find that humanity has the ability to progress toward its highest ideals. The responsibility for our lives and the kind of world in which we live is ours and ours alone.
The Secular Humanists of Roanoke is a non-profit organization. We're an affiliate of the American Humanist Association and the Washington Area Secular Humanists (WASH).
We believe in the scientific method when it comes to understanding how the universe works and that ethical decisions should be based on reason, empathy, and a concern for humanity and the planet we live on.
We are proud supporters and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️❤️
We are vocal about Social Justice, Church-State Separation, Scientific Literacy, Environmental Protection, and Promoting Peace. ☮️
As a group here in the Roanoke Valley we participate in various activities created by other local organizations. We also have our own events throughout the year that benefit the community such as River Cleanups, Adopting a Street and Charity Fundraising.

Note: While SHOR/WASH is a great place to meet people and we are a friendly bunch, we are not a dating website. Couples are welcome to join and participate together or individually.
