Sunset at Lookout Point ∞ + 14

Watch the Sunset over the Ocean at Lookout Point overlooking the entrance to Newport Harbor. This will be our new and better viewing spot. The Summer nights are getting warm enough now so that we can have some evening bike cruises. The Sun starts setting about 6:53 and is gone by 7:03 PM so we will need to ARRIVE at least by 6:00PM in order to leave Bill Barber Park no later than 6:15 SHARP and ride down the bike trail thru Back Bay and catch Bayview to Fernleaf for a short one block steep climb and to Ocean Bl where we will hang out at that sign in the picture that you see here until the Sun is gone. As soon as the Sun sets then we can head back on Poppy turning left on 5th Av and right on Marguerite to 'NEW TURN' San Joaquin Hills Rd. turning LEFT HERE and going down San Joaquin to the Back Bay and then turn right on Back Bay Dr. and taking the Bike Path all the way back to Bill Barber Park.  Food after the ride, your time permitting.

Because of the average speed of 13.5 to 14.5+ and some hills on the way back this is a intermediate level ride.

NOTE: This is a "NEW" Meetup Spot "AND" a "NEW ROUTE". Please read it so you won't get lost. And Please be on time so we all can see the actual Sunset.  Thanks.

See the 'NEW UPDATED ROUTE' going out on the West side of Back Bay & returning on San Joaquin Hills Rd. down to the Back Bay and then the Bike Trail:

We will make Corona Del Mar Beach a "regular" Restroom and Snack stop so everyone will know what to expect. The ride is now 24 miles and this stop is about half way and so it should work out perfect.

See pictures from a previous ride here:

The Cover photo:

The cover photo was taken at Corona del Mar State Beach where we took a slight detour down the incline to the Beach. as you can see it was well worth it. The girl in the photo was with the guy who took the picture. She definitly enhanced the photo.

So charge up or replace your batteries and check your lights out and come over for a nice little Sunset cruise by the Ocean.  Thanks.

Logistics: Take your bike and gear with you to work in the Morning and change at the ride start. Bill Barber Park has Restrooms close by to change in or just change in your car discretely like I do. Just park where nobody can just walk by and change under a towel or something like they do at the beach.

Bike Storage in Car: If you take one wheel off and put an old blanket in your back seat the bike should fit easy or if you take both wheels off the bike it should fit in the trunk. See me if you have questions.

Food After the ride:

The "California Fish Grill" was a big hit with all of us last time, so we will do that again after the ride. Time permitting. It closes at 9:00 PM so move it on the way back please. Thanks. Our Back up food place can be Chili's which is open later. Always good.

Wahoo's Fish Taco's on Michelson near Jamboree is also good!

When you hear of a bicyclist on the news being struck by a vehicle, you feel bad and hope it doesn't happen to you or a loved one. I could never imagine this happening to one of my friends. Paul and I rode for 2 hours together because he was running late and I stayed behind to ride with my friend and I am really happy that I did. He was an amazing and smart guy and it is just heartbreaking to hear that he's gone. He was a strong and careful cyclist so its shocking that this happened. I will pray his family and Sarah.

    Hi, Sarah.
I am really not very good with these kinds of things, I usually feel it inside, but have never have the words to spill out when times like this come. But words aren't always the greatest :) Just know I feel bad for what had happened, and... I think I understand how it can tare you up in devastation, but you are a very strong person. Gosh, I am not good at this... I have a tip for you, stay strong and try anyway you can to stay positive but also it is okay to cry, I mean that stress is not too good for you, and same as depression, take care or yourself :) find out who or what makes you happy or brightens you up in any way, to control your sadness so you won't allow yourself to fall apart! Maybe like seeing some friend that you want to be close to or do an activity that helps you clear your mind even if it is for a small second. So ya, :) All of us bikers are here for you!

Just got the news this morning through the Memorial Ride invitation. I rode with two of you couple of times, didn't have a chance to know Paul very well. But I got few pictures of two of you from the ride to Oceanside. My prayers are with you and Paul's family.

Sarah - my heart is breaking for you and all Paul's loved ones. I can still see Paul in my mind's eye. I can see him smile because we all shared something we loved. That memory will never fade. Life has thrown you a curveball. Hang in there - you are an amazing person. Hoping to see you soon.

Ann and I have often talked about how nice it was to see you and Paul on rides. You two just had a glow about you. I remember how you two waited with me while I was trying to locate Annie on a ride and how you rode with me to catch up to her. You were (and are) very thoughtful people with obvious love in your hearts.

I will remember Paul's wonderful countenance and smiles. I know Ann and I don't know you well, but if there is any way we might be able to help you please let us know. Our email is [masked]. You can also reach us at[masked]

I am so saddened by this and wish to extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to you and Paul's family ... last Saturday, the 2d ... I got to know him more as we waited for a flat to be fixed and later having lunch together ... please find solace in knowing he and you are in our thoughts.

Sarah, no one knew Paul better than you, I met both of you on that same ride multiple times and I must admit both of you left a positive impression of two people tuly in love. No one can explain why Paul had to leave us so soon, a young and healthy man and no one will. The unexplained is what we have to learn to accept to remain sane in this world. God bless his soul as Paul will always be remembered but never forgotten. My heart goes out to you and to Paul's family. Take care Sarah let us know what we can do to ease the pain. Matt

Sarah, My heart is heavy with sadness with the news of Paul's passing. It's tragic and you have my prayers and my deepest sympathy. My thoughts also go out to the other members that attended Wednesday's ride, I hope my prayers will hold you up during this difficult time. Even though I've only been with this group a short time, I've adopted you as my cycling family. You and Paul brought a special dynamic to the group, things just always seemed brighter when the two of you were joining a ride. I'm here for you, we're all here for you.

Sarah: Such dreadful, dreadful news. Both you and Paul made such an impression on me, always smiling, laughing and friendly. I can't believe this has happened. I understand that I live fairly close to Paul's sister (I'm in Laguna Hills) so please let me know if there anything I can do or if you would like some company. Thinking of you during this difficult time.

I also would like to do a memorial ride in Paul's honor tentatively a week from Sunday if it's OK with you. I can't believe he's really gone. He will be very missed by all of us. We lost a very fine man and I can't even imagine how hard it is on you. But sounds like you are holding up as well as could be expected. Stay strong Sarah! And of course we all will remember Paul and his love of cycling and at least he passed doing what he loved. God bless you both. Robert

Hi Sarah, I am so sorry for your/our loss of Paul in this very very tragic accident. He was one of the nicest guys on this planet. We rode together and ate together many times and My heart goes out to you and Paul's Family and all the participants in that ride, who are also traumatized by this horrible event. I have been getting calls all day from concerned members expressing sorrow and shock, and what can they do to help you and family. If there is anything I can do, please don't hesitate to call. In fact I will be calling you tomorrow to find out more about the memorial, and if you want me to post the announcement just let me know and it will be done.

Sarah, my thoughts have been with you and Paul and all the other riders who were with you last night. I've been so sad, but the strength shown in your message has given me hope that our wonderful group will forge on and realize how much each of means to each other. You all will continue to be in my thoughts.
