Announcing RRW's Work in Progress Workshop

Greetings to Everyone!

When joining RRW most of the members mentioned a desire to get feedback on their work. One informal structure is available. Now we are adding an official workshop for reviewing work, the Work in Progress Workshop (WIPW). There are rules, of course.

The main rule is: Anyone attending a given workshop day must submit a piece of their own for review and read those to be workshopped that day. We will receive the most benefit from an active discussion among practicing writers attending a workshop day. There is no requirement to attend all the WIPW days, just to read the pieces to be discussed on the days you do attend.

A primary submission rule is that work will be uploaded to the web site files section in rtf format by the RSVP deadline. Other work submission and discussion ground rules will be posted in soon.

Only YES or NO RSVPs will be allowed to make the amount of reading more manageable. Please reply YES only when you are sure you can come and will commit to reading all submissions for that workshop day! Of course, life Happens: if you have to change your RSVP to NO, let us know so we can remove your piece from the list and save some reading time. There will be an RSVP deadline about a week before the workshop so participants have time to read the material before attending the meeting. Work to be reviewed must also be uploaded by that deadline. We will try a limit of 15 people to see if we can get around to everyone at that group size. Of course, the length of the pieces will affect our ability to do so.

The sessions will be about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, with a break of 20-30 minutes about midway through. Hastings allows us to bring food in, so bring a portable lunch -- one possible use for some of the break time. It is appreciated if we buy our drinks from the store (not their rule, just a nice thing to do; they have soft & sports drinks, bottled water, but don't offer coffee).

As with the meetings of the main group, donations will be collected to help defray the cost of the web site.

This group is a sub-group of RRW; only RRW members are eligible to join as WIPW is an embodiment of the requests of RRW members. The new web site for the RRW WIPW is . You will need an invitation code when you join. The code is
(hyphens included). There is a profile to fill out that asks about what piece you plan to work on.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the workshop -- Ready to Write!
