Rust Los Angeles Monthly Meetup - Happy New Year Hack Night

The best way to start off the new year is to learn more Rust! The December meetup was unfortunately canceled, so I want to carry through the idea of using this time to hack on a project. I have a neat project for people to work with me on that requires speed, concurrency and correctness.

Recently, a capture the flag programming challenge called Stockfighter was released. There are trading levels that require a person to execute trading strategies against the Stockfighter electronic trading market. More info on Stockfighter can be found on their website (https://www.stockfighter.io/).

As a group, we will collaborate on building a Rust SDK to the Stockfighter API (https://starfighter.readme.io/). Using this SDK, we can work individually or in a group to solve the different levels. For those of you who are new to Rust, this is a great way to get involved in the language. For those of you are who experienced with Rust, I hope you find stock markets and automated trading systems interesting.

The Stock Fighter game was created for the explicit purpose of recruiting and hiring developers. If you have any interest in finding a job related to Rust or systems programming, this is a great thing to have on your resume. Even more so if your background is in another area, such as web development.

If you are not interested in participating, no problem. You are more than welcome to still attend the meetup. I will have food and drink for everyone. Sit back, relax and we can talk about Rust for a few hours.

6:30 - 8:30 Arrive and start hacking! Grab food and drink whenever you need a break.

Directions:

The building is at the end of the cul de sac on Hayden Pl. The map makes it look like you can access it from other nearby streets, but there are walls and fences in the way. These are the basic directions once you get off the 10 fwy.

The office is at the end of the cul de sac. The large gray building is where we are meeting. There are two glass double doors in between these trees. There will be signage directing you where to go once you enter the building.
