San Antonio Tea & Herb Enthusiasts Pages

Organizer Contact Information (visible to members only):

Tea is the social lubricant of a generation seeking new, exotic flavors and aromas, answers to health concerns, and the next step after the coffee kick (although many of our members are coffee lovers, as well). Our meetups offer the companionship of tea lovers like yourself, so there's always something to chat about.

View more photos of our meetups by clicking on "Photos" at the top of the page.

The tea ritual can bridge gaps, lift moods, and express concern. Taking the time to make a 'spot' of tea is a simple way to comfort a soul in mourning, a body that is aching, or a mind that is racing.

Like coffee and wine, tea can be appreciated in respect to origin (varietal, region and year), its health-related qualities, or simply as an element of relaxation and enjoyment. Whatever your particular areas or level of interest, this group has plenty to offer.

Each meetup is an opportunity to learn something new, as there's lots of tea-talk for hearing about the latest tips, tricks, and finds. Whether your preference is exquisitely frou-frou Victorian tea rooms, the simpler tea-focused atmosphere of Asian tea culture, or the coziness of tea alone or with just a few friends, there are members who share these interests. Join us (or email the organizer to attend as a guest) to meet others who share your love of tea, good company, and friendship!

The Organizer, Dax, is a student of Chinese gongfu tea service, sometimes called the Chinese tea ceremony. She uses this Asian style for some tasting sessions, while others are Western-styled. You can view Dax's tasting notes on Steepster She also writes online as San Antonio Tea Examiner.

Group activities may include:

* Members can "roll their own" meetups ... invite others to your fav hangout !
* Presentations and demos of teaware and techniques
* Free tea samples at meetups for e-Tastings
* The "Member's Share Box" for tea stuff needing a new home
* Parties, tastings and tea/herb blending sessions
* The "Tea Shuttle" local traveling tea boxes
* Special-interest meetups like healing, poetry, or books
* Individual tea swaps, and a monthly organized swap
* Your Message Board questions promptly answered
* Learn the health-promoting qualities of tea & herbs
* Field trips to Austin for meetups or shopping

But wait, there's more ...

Do you arrive at a meetup expecting to have a place to sit and to be seated together? Do you want respect and good service from employees? Of course! And of course, everyone hates no-shows ... especially event organizers, who need an accurate head count to hold a table for us ... Organizers who don't want their next reservation request to be met with skepticism. Members who fail to update and honor their RSVP's are detrimental to the entire group. We have no choice but to ask repeated no-shows to leave our group. It's very simple, folks ... UPDATE YOUR RSVP as soon as your plans change. Thanks!

CONTRIBUTIONS: $5.00 per year is the suggested contribution, although additional donations of time and/or money are certainly welcome. Payments can be made online through PayPal or Amazon Payments, from your member profile page for the SATHE group. To pay by check or cash, see the Organizer Contact Info link at top of this page.

Out-of-pocket expenses for organizing this group are about $200/year and are paid by Dax, the organizer. The group's future depends on sharing the load. To find out when you last contributed, go to the SATHE web site and click on "My Profile" under the heading "Members." Partway down your profile page, the date and amount of your most recent contribution are displayed. Members can view the group's finances by clicking on "Money" under the Group Tools heading. Member discussions about finances can be viewed in our Financial Forum:

What are Contributions used for? Answer: Internet expenses and office supplies (e.g. printer ink). If there's a surplus, the organizer may use it for door prizes, tea samples, or other goodies to share amongst members. Most money for other purposes, such as speaker's fees, private room fees and tasting/party supplies are paid for by charging a fee to attend special event meetups. So far, we have had no income from sponsors or commissions from our SATHE Amazon Store, so contributions are needed.

MEMBERS and their GUESTS: Members of our meetup group are allowed to bring guests to most of our meetups. There is no limit to the number of times a non-member may attend as the guest of a member. Invite a tea/herb-loving friend or relative to be your guest at one meetup or several. They will not be pressured to join.

Manners: Proselytizing, advertising & selling are not allowed during meetups. Rudeness or remarks of an overly personal nature are inappropriate. Energetic discussion about the best way to steep a particular tea is inevitable! laughing

"Founding Member." This title is reserved for those members who were active in the meetup group during its first year.

Links & Information: Message Board forums open to non-members include Steeping Tips, Education, Current Events, and Humor. Tea news, reviews, new equipment, free videos, recipes, fun things about tea, and much more can be found here, on our Message Board.
