Do you love dinner parties? Do you love to eat (of course you do, you’re in this Meetup!)? Don’t you hate it when you buy a cookbook and only make a few things in it? We are pairing up with another Meetup for a monthly cookbook bookclub. The idea is pretty straightforward - we meet once a month and bring food from the featured cookbook of the month.

This month’s cookbook is The Homesick Texan Cookbook by Lisa Fain. It has been on many Best Cookbooks of 2011 Lists, and I have made her green chile posole and chess pie (both great).

Lisa Fain is a seventh-generation Texan who currently resides in New York City. When she's not on the hunt for chile peppers, she writes and photographs the popular food blog Homesick Texan, which has been named one of the top fifty food blogs in the world by the Times of London and the Best Regional Food Blog by Saveur. It has also received recognition from the New York Times, Bon Appétit, and Gourmet. Lisa's writing has appeared in Saveur and Edible Austin and on SeriousEats.com, and her photographs have been exhibited worldwide, with two in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress. An active member of Foodways Texas and the Southern Foodways Alliance, Lisa is also a certified barbecue judge.

The cookbook is available on Amazon for $19.79 (or $9.90 for the Kindle version). The Los Angeles Public Library System has ONE copy of the book, so you may want to use the reservation system if you go that route (Long Beach and Orange County do not have any copies). Many of her recipes are also available on her blog at http://homesicktexan.blogspot.com/

Please, please, please add in your RSVP or the comments what you are bringing so we can avoid repeats. Also, be sure to bring Tupperware, so you can cart your favorites home. It is BYOB, and I will provide water, tea, and cokes. I will also provide the plates, cups, silverware, and napkins.

We hope to see you there!
