Birthday Bash! Lightning Talks and Cupcakes!

SEM.js is turning 1 year old! We'd like to celebrate with a meeting filled with lightning talks. Lightning talks are short (5 minute) presentations about something awesome. We are going to fill our time with a potpourri of JavaScript-minded topics. Our lineup looks like this (no particular order yet):

Jon McKay: The Tessel (tessel.io)

John Chapman: Johny-Five

Spencer Jobe: Faux-Threading

Miguel Castillo: Promises

Ravi Desai: Javascript Horology - Supporting multiple calendars in your Javascript clients

Jeanette Head: Emmet

Steve Coffman: Yeoman

Julie Cameron: Object Oriented CSS

Mark LeMerise: Landscape of 2D and 3D drawing libraries

Derek Miller: Creating Efficiency with PerfectPixel

Oh yeah. We'll have cupcakes!!!!!!

Thanks for the opportunity! This group seems to get bigger and better each month. Lots of great presentations! Thanks you Brian, Dennis, and John for putting in the effort to make a great group.

Also, I uploaded FauxThread.js to GitHub.

Here's a Doug Crockford's post on building a parser in JavaScript. Really cool stuff. Top-Down Operator Precedence

Thanks for a great time. Check out more at http://yeoman.io and https://github.com/yeoman/generator-mobile. I recommend using https://github.com/JamesMGreene/grunt-loadNpmTasks to make life easier. Also, if you're not using angular then check out grunt-bower-install or grunt-bower-requirejs.

This was a great show! Very impressed; I really enjoyed it. I think having a meeting of just lightning talks should become a May tradition!

First time at Nutshell's new digs just a few doors down from Atomic Object: NICE!

The URL for CodeCraftsmanSaturdays.blogspot.com is Code... Well, you get it. Free, code with strangers, get fed, full day of hands-on-keyboards and hanging with other coders.

I might be a little late. My wife is having to detour around some flooding, and was stuck at work because of the storm.

No worries. We can move you around if need be.

    So what's the word?
Is the birthday bash still going down?

    I'm driving over from Detroit!

As of this time (4:45), the meeting is still on. If they push the tornado warning back any further, we will make another decision.

It looks like someone took "lightning" talk a little too literally.

If we are on the wait list, when can we expect to know if we are allowed to go?

    • Brian G.

You get notification when the spot opens up. Looks like there were a couple of cancellations in the last couple minutes. See you tonight!

  • Rebekah R.

My spot is up for grabs. I can't attend tonight. I updated my RSVP

Hi Brian , are you still looking for lightning-talk presenters?

    February 12, 2014

    • Brian G.

Spencer, we might be looking to add lightning talks as "openers" to our meetings after May. Email me if you are interested. FirstLast@gmail
