Peer production: how stuff is made in a decentralized way

Details

Production of material goods is getting decentralized. This follows a general trend that people call different names: the collaborative economy, the participatory economy, the sharing economy, or the p2p economy.

Since 2010 SENSORICA (http://www.sensorica.co/home) is developing a model for open enterprise (http://valuenetwork.referata.com/wiki/Main_Page) : individuals form networks able to innovate, produce, distribute and service material goods in an open and decentralized way.

Join us to learn more about our achievements and the state of our projects. Meet with other people working on different aspects of the p2p economy.

We start at 5pm, network until 6:30, followed by a 30 min. presentation, followed by open discussions until we finish the beer.

We'll serve some food and drinks.

Our current economy is agonizing. Our planet is in a dire state, partially because our current economy is unsustainable. But there is hope! The new digital technology, the Internet, allows us to come together across political barriers, to share, to coordinate, to collaborate, to create value in a new way.

The world is changing. And that’s the good news. A new type of economy is emerging, one that is in tune with the new reality, that takes into account the finitude of our natural resources, that creates more justice. People call it the collaborative economy, the sharing economy, the p2p economy.

A few individuals got together in 2010 to work out the details of commons-based peer production (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commons-based_peer_production). We designed a new system that allows individuals to create value in a collaborative manner, to distribute it and to share the benefits in a fair way. We built the SENSORICA lab in Montreal (http://www.sensorica.co/home/working-space/labonline-network/montreal-labonline), Canada, an open lab that gives free access to individuals to develop their ideas in collaboration with others. We built open source tools (https://github.com/valnet/valuenetwork) to allow a better coordination and management of resources and processes, to manage supply chains, to facilitate research and development, to streamline manufacturing and distribution. We offered to the world open source technology (http://www.sensorica.co/home/what-we-do/projects) for scientific research and agriculture. We are training students (http://www.sensorica.co/home/working-space/interns), we are helping the unemployed and the underemployed.

Our work was recognized by academics in business management and administration who understand that the world is shifting under the influence to the new technology that allows massive sharing and collaboration. Sensorica was the subject of an international case organized by HEC Montreal (http://www.sensorica.co/home/working-space/recent-announcements/sesoricaascasestudyatigchec2013), a world renowned business school. We have been invited to present in many academic forums and to give workshops to MBA students (http://www.sensorica.co/home/working-space/recent-announcements/sensoricapresentedatuqam), who need to learn the new trends? We have also attracted the attention of a wider community like TEDxMontreal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ixgp8_B9g5A) and OuiShare in Europe (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKrScVH0NlY). We work with the P2PValue project (http://www.p2pvalue.eu/) funded by the European commission to design and implement infrastructure for commons-based peer production, the same production model that we are using.

What is SENSORICA (http://www.sensorica.co/home)? An open enterprise. Crowdfunding and crowdsourcing on the same platform. A open laboratory, a community.

Since 2010 we have been working very hard on building the basis of the new collaborative economy. We have accumulated a lot of experience and created a lot of tools. We want to share all that with you!

Be part of this revolution!
