Meeting location:  The address for the building for Rosie McCann's says it is on Santana Row, but the only entrance to the restaurant is on Plazza De Valencia.  See this Google Map link.  Free WiFi is available, bring your smart phone, pad or device as desired.  I will share some Google doc notes.

Any energy for a Data Mining Hackathon (regular and big data version?). Only if other efforts are covered first.

Also, one thing from previous years: can we set up a wiki (integrated to Disqus discussion, or whatever), then appoint a note-taker at each session who writes a summary by the end of session. I previously volunteered to for sessions I attended, but there was no wiki, and spotty internet connectivity. The redux at the closing session is for me one of the most valuable parts, but let's wikify it.

My suggestions on the session no-shows: it's better to prevent them than have to apologize for them. Don't accept all proposals, screen the proposer for basic credentials (like: do they know anything about the topic they propose to discuss), and require them to send draft slides/speaking notes. Remind the speakers that they're committing to giving the session, it's not ok to just show up and see if anyone else turned up, or anyone more knowledgeable, and if not just walk out. Cancel a session if there are say < 3 votes for it. (Or at least, show the confirmed votecount for each session, so people know which ones look dubious)

Clearly mark whether each session is a) lecture b) demo c) workshop (people code along) d) panel e) group discussion f) unsession (whoever shows up determines what format it is)

    Hello all,
If you change your mind about coming, please change your meetup RSVP. Thanks

    Stephen,
Yes, we are working on more voting. Dave Neilson has been developing some web software infrastructure for camps in general (he does Cloud Camp). He will share it with our Data Science Camp. Come Monday and he will review features - which include voting.

Sorry about the session no-shows. What sanctions would you suggestion? How would they be implemented? This can be a discussion item.

    3) The hiring roundtable in 2012 was very good (5 companies), but in 2013 was just Brian Johnson talking about eBay and the way they are organized and hire - not very generic.

    1) Do you have a list of all the 2013 session no-shows , and what sanction was taken against those people? Do you vet their proposed sessions/slides e.g. what about the guy who had a session about predictive analytics for real-estate and started the session (late) by admitting he knew nothing about either, but hoped someone else in the room did and could help? (At which point almost everyone walked out)

    2) Can we please use Disqus or something for real-time voting on session breakouts, also to show session time and location changes? Many of us ended up in empty rooms due to session cancellations or changes.
