Inaugural meeting of SF Bay Ceph user group

First meeting of the SF Bay Area User group.

Schedule:

Ceph in OpenStack by Dmitry Boradenko, Senior Software Engineer @ Mirantis.

An overview of the flexibility brought to OpenStack by Ceph.

The junction of OpenStack, Ceph and High performance by Eli Karpilovski and Eyal Gutkind @ Mellanox.

We will review the recent results of Ceph benchmarks over high performance networks. Including configurations, application and results achieved using Ceph. In addition, we will discuss how OpenStack integrates high performance networking features.

Building Ceph Storage Fabrics by Kyle Bader @ Inktank.

Ceph, being a distributed storage system, is highly reliant on the
network for resiliency and performance. In addition, it is crucial
that the network topology beneath a Ceph cluster be designed in such a way to facilitate easy scaling without service disruption. After an introduction to Ceph itself this talk will dive into the design of Ceph client and cluster network topologies.

The presentations were very useful. Would it be possible to post the decks for the other two presentations, too?

I've attached the Mellaonx slides to the meetup files section. The other two should be up shortly.

    Are the presentations posted anywhere?

I thought it was really good. All presentations were quite informative.

As we get closer to the meeting, it would be nice if the presentation titles are posted.

As a suggestion, a presentation on install/user base and possibly installing Ceph for one to tinker with would be good.

Great, I will git it a try this weekend in a VM. Thank you for the pointers. I am interested in real life use cases, and how Ceph (object storage) is being used in different scenarios.

We should have a list of the speakers and subjects lined up by Friday. There is a great guide to get started at http://ceph.com/docs/... using ceph-deploy is one of the fastest and easiest methods. You can also get help from a number of people on #ceph on irc.oftc.net. I'd also be happy to meet up with you after the presentations if you still need any help.
