Mid-week investigation of Devil's Slide -- bring your kids?

Details
I've been wanting to explore this area since the new tunnel opened. We'll hike about 2.5 miles, enjoying lunch (if you bring one), the views, and exploring the roadcuts and rocks. I'm not sure what we'll see, but we should see something.
It's summer, so if you want to bring your kids on this short hike, please do. I'll have my nine year-old granddaughter with me.
We'll meet at the parking area at the north end of the trail. I haven't parked there before, but from Google Earth it looks like there is plenty of parking, and it's a weekday, so that should help keep the crowds away.
Here's a map showing the distance and altitude changes: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5136307

Here are a couple of Quest web pages on the geology (thanks to Mark for the links):
• Geology of the Devil's Slide Area (2010) (http://science.kqed.org/quest/2010/10/07/geology-of-the-devils-slide-area/)
• The Rocks of Devil's Slide (2013) (http://science.kqed.org/quest/2013/03/28/the-rocks-of-devils-slide/)
I'll try to get some geologic research done between now and then, but I'll be away at a workshop this weekend. If anyone has good resources, please link to them in the comments section.
As usual, ending time is not certain, but I'm guessing this will take us about two hours, with lunch and stops enjoy the rocks and the views.

As usual, dogs are not welcome on these hikes.
