Pizza, beer, and mingling.

DTrace is an award-winning dynamic tracing framework in Solaris, Mac, FreeBSD, and Linux. Hear from one of the creators, the author of the DTrace book, and others using and building on top of DTrace. The talks will cover everything from DTrace basics, to building DTrace monitoring in your environment, debugging problems with DTrace, and getting started with DTrace on your platform of choice.

Do you know what your individual hosts are doing?

Some time ago, we had an evening on Performance Tuning topics, and DTrace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DTrace) generated a lot of interest. So, this month we're going to have an entire evening devoted to it.

DTrace can be used to gain insights into both your OS and application behavior. It can also be used to gain insight into applications built with languages that use byte code interpreters, such as Java, Python, PHP, and Ruby.

For the May event, I'd like to hear about things you can do with DTrace. What sorts of problems have you used it to uncover? How did it help you find your problem? Did your OS support DTrace out-of-the-box, or did you have to take steps to make DTrace usable?

I'm looking for 2-4 20-25 minute talks. If you can give a talk, please contact me, Chris Westin, through meetup.

As well as the evening's theme talks, we can fit in 2-3 five minute lightning talks at the beginning of the evening; any topic that would be interesting to the #lspe audience is welcome. If you're interested in giving a lightning talk, contact me, Chris Westin, through meetup.
