Spark Workshop on the Peninsula

Details

We are partnering with Paxata to bring Alpine Academy's series of workshops on Spark to the Peninsula.

This series of workshops provides a general, hands-on introduction to Spark, a framework for lightning fast cluster computing. Contents of the workshop will start with the basic concepts (SparkContext, RDDs) and will be tailored to participants' interests.

Student Selection criteria (from the instructor):

I’d like to make sure we are able to spend our time covering fun bits of Spark rather than doing setup. If you are interested in attending please do the following: Install Apache Spark 1.6 on your laptop http://spark.apache.org/downloads.html

Run sc.parallelize(1.to(100)).filter(_ % 2 == 0).reduce(_ + _) in the Spark Scala shell and include the output in an email (or pinky swear that you've installed spark).

Once we receive the output, we'll move you from the waitlist to RSVPed.

In the email, also please let us know if you are interested in Scala or Python (will try and get a balance of both)

E-mail: anya@alpinenow.com
