SF Scala Message Board › 1st SVSS tomorrow!
San Francisco, CA
Dear fellow Scalaists --
Our first Silicon Valley Scala Symposium is tomorrow. We start bright and early with coffee and breakfast. Volunteers will be there to check you against the attendee list, and help you can pick your badge from the registration desk in the lobby. A few guests who were added past the deadline will need to register with Intel security.
There will be volunteers helping you get your badge, come to the keynote on time and not bring any food there, find the way to the tracks, lunch, and breaks. WiFi codes will be posted on the walls.
Opening remarks and the keynote start at 8:15am sharp. Please make sure you take your seats in the main auditorium adjacent to the lobby by 8:15am. If you are arriving late, please stay in the back of the auditorium. There is no food or drink in the keynote auditorium, so breakfast should be finished outside in the dedicated room next to the lobby.
After the keynote, we proceed to the three tracks held at rooms B, C, and D inside the building. Intel is a secured facility and we are only authorized to use the lobby, the long corridor leading to the training rooms, the rooms themselves, and the restrooms halfway in the corridor. There will be signs guiding you along that path, and marking the restrooms.
The coffee breaks and lunch will be served in the training room E, dedicated to social mingling and coffee. The goal is to always have coffee there, so if it runs out, please notify one of the volunteers or the servers.
Lunch will be served buffet-style in room E so that folks can take it back to rooms B-D. There will be one line along the right-hand side of the corridor going into room E, splitting for pickup, and merging back out along the other side of the corridor. Please ensure a smooth flow of that line on the way in and out.
Volunteers will monitor how full each room is and will ask you to go to other tracks if the room is full. When all three tracks are full, we will ask the overflow folks to mingle in the mingling room. Those folks who registered past the deadline had agreed to that request, and we'll expect folks to be understanding of the building code requirements.
There will be video recording of all three tracks and the keynote. The cameras will be positioned in front of the speakers. Since talks will be full, we ask you to be very careful around the cameras and their power cords, as well as avoiding passing in front of the cameras during the talks. Since every person will be able to see only 1/3 of the talks, we'll rely on the recordings to make the rest available to everybody. Hence we ask speakers to enable us with screen-capture (instructions provided to the speakers) and the audience members not to tip over the cameras and enable a clear line of sight, as well as avoiding excessive noise in the tracks.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow and having a fun and productive conference!
