21st Annual Northern California Women’s Sailing Seminar

Details
Interested in learning how to sail? This is sounds like a pretty good deal for 2 days of classes, and it's in the warmer East Bay. One person from the North Bay Sailing Meetup group has also RSVP'd.
And, for those interested in racing, on Sunday you can pick the "Racing Track", which would be very good for wanna-be racers. Remember, being racing crew on someone else's boat s a great way to build up free boat time. Racing skippers usually always need crew!
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR the 21st Annual Northern California Women’s Sailing Seminar

This promises to be a fun, relaxing, educational and inspiring weekend. Be a lucky winner at the exciting raffle which includes valuable and useful sailing prizes!
Island Yacht Club’s Northern California Women’s Sailing Seminar was created and founded in 1993 by Mary Quigley and Linda Newland after they attended a women’s sailing seminar down south. They thought, “We need a seminar in Northern California, too!” – where women could learn about sailing from other women.
Online Registration is available NOW! CLICK HERE (https://iycwss.wufoo.com/forms/2013-womens-sailing-seminar-registration) to open our online registration site in a new browser window. (But we recommend looking at the Class Descriptions (http://www.iyc.org/wp/wss/2013-wss-class-descriptions/) page, or downloading our printable PDF information sheet (http://iyc.org/forms/130614-2013WSSInformationANDform.pdf) first; you’ll want to look at the class offerings and decide what to sign up for before you go to the registration page.)
Your tuition fee of only $220 covers two full days including our Saturday workshops, continental breakfasts, lunches, one raffle ticket, class handouts, WSS visor, a bag filled with goodies from our sponsors – plus Sunday sailing! Additional donations are gladly accepted and will help us put on this seminar every year. Registration is first-come, first served.
WSS is made possible by the generous donations of instructors, boat owners and sponsors. Each participant’s printed program will include details about our contributors, sponsors and volunteers, to whom we extend a sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU!

Beginner Track: Our always-popular track that starts with “This is a sailboat” and moves on from there. If you’ve never set foot on a boat, if you have only gone along for the ride, or even if you’ve done a little sailing but not really understood what’s going on, this is for you. Classes include Boat Speak, Basic Sailing (Classroom) and Basic Sailing (On the Water).
Intermediate Track: NEW. Sharpen your overall skills. Review of terms, procedures, safety and equipment; Boat Rigging and Knots, Practice maneuvers (On the Water), Practice sail trim in different conditions (On the Water).
Sail Trim: NEW. Advanced Sail Trim (Classroom), Sail Shaping (Dockside), Shaping the Headsail thru Tacks and Jibes (On the Water), Fine Tuning Underway (On the Water).
http://iyc.org/images/120820spinnaker.jpgSpinnaker Track: While winds are low in the morning hours, learn details of theory and practice to get the most out of the big sail. At the dock, practice packing the spinnaker, rigging the boat, setting and dousing the spinnaker and learn to jibe. As the winds rise in the afternoon, practice safely sailing and trimming the spinnaker on the water. Practice sets, jibes, and douses.
Racing Track: NEW. Intro to Racing (Classroom), Rules & Start Sequence (Classroom), Crew Positions (On the Water), Race Practice (On the Water). (We recommend doing the RACING option on Sunday if you select this track.)

Ocean Cruising Track: NEW. Anchoring/Mooring (On the Water), Communications (Classroom), Weather (Classroom), Marine Electronics & Mechanical Problem-solving (Dockside).
Custom Classes for 2013:
If you don’t sign up for a track, we’ve got special-interest classes planned for you. (You can also enroll for some of the Track classes.) More information on all that is on the Course Descriptions page. (http://www.iyc.org/wp/wss/2013-wss-class-descriptions/)
Sunday Fun
On Sunday, you have two great choices:
RACING: You’ll attend a mandatory Skippers’ Meeting in the morning, and then divide up into teams and head out on the Estuary in a fleet of Santana 22 sailboats. The day will be run as a regatta with one race following another, and a grand awards ceremony at the end of the day.
CRUISING: Heat out the Estuary to San Francisco Bay for an extended cruise on a larger boat. How far you go depends on the winds and currents, but we’ve had Sunday cruises make it all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge! Take an active role and test your skills, or just relax and enjoy the ride.
