Steve Souders: High Performance Mobile

High Performance Mobile

For our second meetup in the South Bay, we are very excited to have Steve Souders present about High Performance Mobile:

"Case studies from Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Netflix, and others testify that making websites faster drives more traffic to your site, improves the user experience, increases revenue, and reduces operating costs. Best practices, tools, and web services abound for improving website performance on the desktop. But where are we when it comes to mobile performance? Join Steve Souders as he presents the latest developments for analyzing mobile performance and creating a faster mobile experience."

Steve works at Google on web performance and open source initiatives. He previously served as Chief Performance Yahoo!. Steve is the author of High Performance Web Sites and Even Faster Web Sites . He is the creator of YSlow, one of the top 25 of 2 billion Firefox add-ons. He's created many other performance tools and services including the HTTP Archive, Cuzillion, Jdrop, ControlJS, and Browserscope. He serves as co-chair of Velocity, the web performance and operations conference from O'Reilly, and is co-founder of the Firebug Working Group. He taught CS193H: High Performance Web Sites at Stanford University.

The event will be hosted at LinkedIn and doors open at 6:30pm.

My understanding is that his presentation was to the HTML5 group and was HTML5 specific. This is intended to focus on the Mobile experience.

Is this the repetition of the talk that Steve gave in SF a few weeks ago or new and different material?

@Scott Glaser - You should receive a notification via email if you are converted from waiting to confirmed.

Also, please note that Hans has updated the the meetup description with the live streaming URL. If you cannot make it down to the South Bay, but really want to watch, please tune into the live stream. The LinkedIn recording capacity and facilities are incredible. The live stream will be an excellent alternative: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/l...

Good question Scott. The waiting list is set to automatically switch your status from 'waiting' to 'going' once a seat frees up. This is why we encourage those who do not plan on attending to switch their status 'not going'. With that said if all 300 people show up I'll be absolutely stunned.

  • Scott G.

If we are on the waiting list how will we know when we are attendees? Also is there a waiting list number?

    August 29, 2011

  • Hans B.

If you know (or suspect) you won't be going - be kind to others and change your status. This will free up some seats.

I just upped the seats available... the room can legally accommodate 300 people. Also - we've ordered Mexican food for 100 people - first come, first serve.

    August 24, 2011

  • Sumit K.

yeah.. is there any waiting list?

    August 24, 2011

  • Roy Y.

    Oops, any waiting list?
