Re: [sfror] mail list management system

Hey Joe! Check out mailgun.com and mandrill.com (Mandrill is actually a Mailchimp product). These are traditional "transactional email" services that expose a nice API and some functionality on their side. I've also heard good things about (but haven't used myself) userfox.com, which may have some of the more advanced features you're looking for.

not really a rails question.  and probably a kind of newb question, but gonna ask anyway.

in the midst of building a simple sas system (website builder for authors in fact).    want to do standard email list tasks: "your trial is coming to an end"   "here is the news this week"  etc etc.    so wanting to manage people who sign up, and send them different emails over time based on their various states (trial, subscribed, long-time user etc).

was going to use Aweber, but just discovered that they absolutely insist on sending a validation email where user has to click a link to validate their email.    I don't want to do that.   my users sign up because they want the service, they opt-in at that time, and the extra validation puts a barrier in the process that I don't want.   and my competition doesn't do that (in fact, very few services do these days as far as I can see).

so the question is: what services are there out there for managing my customers which are a) pretty functional (allow email chains, email list segmentation etc), but don't require a validation email.

they must exist?   no?   (mailchimp, for exmaple, requires validation).

(oh, and, yes I've read and thought-through all the pros and cons of opt-in mechanics etc - my users opt-in during their registration process).

thanks much!

Joe
