Anybody who ported a game that was designed for a platform other than mobile has faced the critical importance of user experience design for smartphones. Screen size and the need to occlude the play area to input commands can be a curse unless the game is re set to adopt the new paradigm. The way we use smartphones, the places where we use them and even the way we hold them should be taken into consideration if we want the user to fully enjoy the fruit of our hard coding labor.

Drawing from experience in many published titles, Hernan will cover the principles of UX design for mobile and illustrate them with clear examples. The objective of the talk is for the attendants to walk away with the tools necessary to re focus their current project or start the next game design on the right foot.

Our second speaker is a Developer Evangelist at HTC (Michael Ludden) and will discuss how to get your game prominently featured on over 75 million HTC devices worldwide, how HTCdev promotes developers in the community and at events, and how HTCdev can help with testing and development for free from beginning to end. There will be a large number of HTC devices for testing in case you've ever wanted to do some QA on a range of the best phones/tablets available.

Our third presentation is by Brian Spencer, Sr. Engineer at Qualcomm, who will share Qualcomm's latest upcoming technology called AllJoyn – Proximity based peer-to-peer made easy. Come learn more about the AllJoyn framework, architecture, and success stories about other developers who have added AllJoyn to their games.

According to his mother, Hernan learned to talk before walking because he figured out that if you ask for things nicely, you can have them brought to you. This concept evolved very quickly into a passion for telling computers what to do. A Computer Science degree from University of San Francisco, and a couple of co-founded companies later including Nextive, Hernan works at Globant as their mobile guru. Hernan has worked on several top 10 mobile games, including Farmville and Mafia Wars for companies including Zynga, Aeria Games, Funzio and BigFish games.
