Visit Whitaker Peak and Townsend Peak

These two peaks are conveniently accessible along the "Mad Max" road - a stretch of US-99 that was supplanted by I-5 that gives the impression of a lost stretch of highway. The stretch is terminated by the dam that creates Pyramid Lake.

A closed dirt road makes easy hiking - but it still is about 4.5 miles to Whitaker Peak LO site. Another chunk of hiking is required to visit the high point (about 1 mi, 500'? gain).

If those 10 miles of hiking are not enough, we will also visit Townsend Peak using crappy yet hikable fireroads from US-99.
