Sneak peek at Lightroom 4 and photographer John Lund

We'll have two speakers for this meeting.

First, exciting news! Lightroom 4 public beta is now available as a free download! Join Lightroom Product Manager Sharad Mangalick as he walks us through the new features in Lightroom 4 beta.

Lightroom 4 has something for those starting out, as well as more advanced users. The team has been working on new features like the geo-tagging map module, DSLR video support, photo book creation and much more. Read about this advance preview on the Photoshop.com blog: http://adobe.ly/yyghqX.

Next, we will hear from professional photographer John Lund (www.johnlund.com). John has been using Photoshop for over twenty years. He will share his work, how it has changed over the years, and, just as importantly, how it has remained the same. He will show his favorite work, share some before and after images and discuss how he gets his ideas as well as explaining his approach to creating new photographic realities.

We'll have pizza and drinks at 6:30, and the meeting will start at 7:00, in the Park Conference Room of Adobe Systems' East Tower, 345 Park Avenue, San Jose.

To park underneath the Adobe building, use the Almaden Avenue entrance, under the East Tower. If the security guard at the parking entrance asks for an Adobe contact, use Stephen Nielson's name.

This was my first meetup with the San Jose Photoshop Users Group. The sneak peek at LR4 was made it worth being there all on its own. To then have John Lund present his remarkable work made for a marvelous evening.

The presentation could be better organized. Sitting for guesses was one of the issues. About Lightroom 4 sneak peek, I would say the presenter could be more prepared to demonstrate the product in more fun and versatile manner.

What a laid back pair of speakers! Self deprecating, patient with the many interesting and mostly pertinent questions; a tribute to the organizers of this Adobe sanctioned event. Sharad Mangalick ably demonstrated Lightroom 4 beta, and John Lund shared the secrets that have made him so successful.

Very good. I thoroughly enjoyed both presentations. As a result of it, I will buy Lightroom 4 (I bought/used Lightroom 2, but was not really impressed. LR 4 has several good aspects that I liked. And John was just a fun, and creative guy; with some very interesting applications of Photoshop.

Both presentations were great. Under the time constraints for Lightroom, still learned enough to be very interested in this program. Anxious to try the beta version.
John Lund was both delightfully entertaining and creatively inspiring. Without being too technical, was able to share/demo Photoshop's strength beyond just photo retouching - to create photo art only being limited by one's imagination. Loved it!

Not enough chairs. They should limit it to the people who actually responded.

Lightroom was presented well and highlighted very nice features in the beta version. The presenter was professional and kept the crowd interested. I will download the beta version to try out the features that were presented.

John Lund's pictures and presentation was eye opening in terms of what inspired the pictures as well as execution. His ideas made lots of sense when put into words. Really never thought there was a market for this type of photography, even though it has been around me all the time.

The sneak peak was great and a lot of good information was shown as part of the demo. The constant questions on/off topic were a bit of a distraction from the product.

I wish I got the whole presentation from the Adobe guy for LR4. It was consistently interrupted with comments and questions. Maybe a presentation followed by a ten minute Q and A after would be better. Pizza good. John Lund good.

The presentation by John Lund was amazing, he showed his work and the way he worked to make stock photography, wow!!!!!!. Really nice.

Presentation by Sharad on Lightroom was okay, not bad.

Needed a bigger room for standing room only crowd. Thank you for pizza/salad/drinks, very nice! I suggest that in the future the speakers do not take questions from the audience until after they give their talk. The questions are too distracting, both to the audience and the speaker. Thanks for a great seminar, looking forward to Lightroom 4. A user group would be GREAT!

Lightroom 4 looks like it is almost all 98% of the world needs (alright, maybe too much). John Lund's presentation was entertaining and inspiring us, but using PS, not in his field of work. The LR presenter lost control of the meeting to questioners. The new things of LR should have been presented with questions withheld to the end. He also needs more practice. Public speaking is an art learned by practice and experience.

Lightroom 4 looks like it has some great improvements. The meeting made me very interested in evaluating the Beta 4 version. Listening to John Lund was very invigorating. His work with images for stock photos is amazing.

John Lund was fine, but the Lightroom meeting was virtually taken over by a few people asking very narrowly focused questions. The meeting should start on time with questions held until the end.
