Chris Swainston developed The Shooter Project while working as a bartender at the Twilite Lounge in SLC, UT. He began taking notice to the reactions people had after swallowing a shot of alcohol. After about two years, he started photographing portraits in order to capture these reactions. Every person shot something different — whiskey, tequila, schnapps, gin, rum — anything.
During this time, he collected the glass liquor bottles that the participants drank from to use as the frames for the final photographs. After he had collected enough images, he compiled them into a book.
With the help of Nate Silverstein, Andrea Paustenbaugh, Dirk Hogan and many others, they hand-printed 100 special edition books entitled Shooter. The books will be released February 24th, 2012, at the SLC Photo Collective (http://www.slcphotocollective.org), along with an installation of 99 bottle portrait pieces. To see a preview of these portraits visit swainstonphoto.com (http://www.swainstonphoto.com/#2039065/Shooter-Projcet).
We are excited to host the official Exhibition and Book Release of Shooter including live music from Giraffula (http://www.cityweekly.net/utah/article-15199-giraffula.html). We invite you to come celebrate with us.
Friday, February 24th, 2012. 6-10pm @ SLC Photo Collective (http://www.slcphotocollective.org) with an after party at Twilite Lounge (http://www.twilitelounge.com/).
