Shooting event at Sloss Furnaces, Birmingham Ala.

It has been about two years sense my last visit, so it's time for a Saturday shoot at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham. Sloss is a 32 acre city park and National Historic Landmark that dates back to the mid 1800s. It was a major producer of pig iron with limited production into the early 1970s. You will find 20+ buildings, blast furnaces, and lots of monster machinery to photograph. We must pay a $10.00 donation and sign waiver forms upon arrival. Saturday hours are 10 am to 4 pm central time. You will find lots on information and maps at slossfurnaces.com. There are some eating places and interesting shops in a restored industrial area nearby. The drive is about 2.5 hours from mid-town Atlanta. If someone can recommend a good meeting place, we can gather to ride share and convoy. A Marta Parknride or shopping center usually works well.

As always, you are welcome to call my cell or email with questions.

the Sloss Furnaces was a very good photography shoot and as usual Jack Martin did a fine job as the facilitator.

Trish, I'm thinking to meet you there at about 8 at the latest if we want to convoy with the others. It takes quite a while to get to B'ham from this side of town. What do you think? Mikki

Trish, do you have room for more? I'm in Lilburn and I think Janerio is around here too.

I was looking to carpool because my truck isn't running so well right now. I was wondering about the departure time. I live right off of I-20, like a 100 feet.

What time to meet at park and ride?

There's a Park-n-Ride area in Douglasville that doesn't have buses on Saturday so there shouldn't be any problem with us parking there. If anyone wants to meet there: take Exit 37 Fairburn Road. Go to the light take a right. Go down to the Walgreens/Chick-fil-A and take a left. I pretty sure it's the 2nd street light.

Last time, we met in the parking lot on the other side of the church where we meet for SPS. Wouldn't that be good? I'd dearly love to go and would be happy to contribute gas $ for a lift.

I would rather find a meeting place on the west side of Atlanta but don,t know the area. If I cant come up with something, I'll send out a memo Thursday announcing the Church as the meeting point.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
