Astrophotography at Brasstown Bald

If you're going to be around for the holidays and want to spend a few hours shooting the Milky Way or star trails, let's get together. The date I've suggested coincides with a new moon so we'll have that going for us. Now we'll just need to have the weather cooperate with us.

My intent is to try to get to BB before sunset and hopefully shoot a nice, clearing storm sunset series. I'll park near the benches that overlook the valley in the southwest corner of the parking lot.
Sunset is at 5:40pm so we'll be able to start shooting star images around 6:30. I'll plan to stay until around 10 and then head home. I have a camp stove that I'll bring so we can heat up some water for instant coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Bring along a folding chair/lounge and a couple warm blankets because we'll have some down time while the cameras are shooting away on automatic. Don't forget gloves, knit cap, and warm jacket.

Camera body(s), know how to turn your long exposure noise reduction on & off Wide to ultrawide angle lenses, you'll be shooting in manual focus at infinity so know the sweet spot setting on your lenses Tripod(s) Shutter release(s) Batteries Memory Cards Flashlights, you can never have too many Coffee cup
