DIY Database

  • August 7, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • NVidia Bldg E Conference Center

Lambert Lum will talk through his own work to build a database specifically for append-only data. For its intended purpose, it performed several times faster than MongoDB.

Presentation is not Perl-specific. Feel free to invite your non-Perl friends.

We'll also have the usual Perl-specific Q&A as well as a get-together of those seeking and offering Perl jobs after the speaker.

Ask if you need a ride from a nearby transit station.  Plan for the Santa Clara Caltrain station or VTA's Component light rail station.

Interesting, but mostly in the abstract. Not something I need right now. Interesting overview of other technologies.

Looks like I'll be one of those 'last minute adds' for NVidia. My attendance is still not a certainty, but I'll try to be a little early arriving.

Yeah, it's no problem. All you have to do is walk over to After-Hours security and they'll make you a badge on the spot.

Except they need a host name and I haven't got that info

Sadly, I can't make it, so as long as they aren't requiring ID for a badge, someone else can take my badge. Please post the slides later, I'm really interested!

We have to respect the host's badging policy. We'll help anyone who needs it to get their own.

We'll streamline the process over the upcoming months. It turns out NVidia security wants 24 hours for the pre-printed badges for RSVPs. So we've sent that list now. (It was all from MeetUp - there were no Facebook RSVPs when the list was made Wednesday afternoon.) Badges will still be available at the NVidia security office. We'll show attendees there and back starting before the meeting and as needed during it. So come anyway but expect us to help you with the security badge.

Hey, everyone! If you plan to come, please do RSVP so we can have a badge ready for you when you get there. Otherwise, you get to walk over to After Hours Security and get one. Save yourself the hassle, and RSVP today!

There was some question whether my travel plans would get me back in town in time for the SVPerl meeting. I'm back.

While I would love to see Lambert's presentation, I will not be in town that Thursday.
