Monday Night Tennis with SWOT (2-24-14)

Come play tennis with the SWOTTERS!

If you're looking for some Monday night fun, which may include sweating, laughing, cheering, running, falling on your rear end (get up Ty!...look out John!), making new friends, and even playing a little competitive tennis, followed by good eats and drinks.... then SWOT is the answer!

(There will be 24 available playing spots!)
**With the last six spots (19-24) I try to give priority first to NEW members and/or worthy regulars (ALL bribes will be considered!! KIDDING!!)

Depending on how many players show up, we'll have several courts of doubles, (predominantly) mixed doubles and possibly some singles...whatever seems like the most fun for everyone. We'll mix it up with different players throughout the night, try to keep everyone's interest and involvement high! As the night approaches, we'll have a much better idea of what will suit our gang the best!

**PLEASE only 3.0+ players ...see the NTRP skill chart (link on our ABOUT US Page) or call me if not sure!

We generally play on courts 12 -17 towards the back.

Lake Cane Tennis Center

(I hope Lake Cane is a conducive location for everyone - they have 17 well lit courts and hourly court costs are reasonable!)

We have the courts reserved from 7:00- 9:00pm. (Please arrive by 6:45!)

Drinks & food after (non-alcoholic perfectly acceptable!) at The Bloodhound Brew for all who are interested!

$6.00 per player INCLUDES:
Court fee, new tennis balls and COLD bottled waters!

*Just bring cash on Monday Night or pay by Paypal...whichever way is easier for you!

**If we fill to capacity, and you'd still like to play, be sure to add your name to the WAITING LIST!! The last six spots (19-24) we try to reserve for new members and worthy regulars - ALL bribes will be considered! KIDDING!?! ;)

...We often get late cancellations, so be sure to ADD your name to the Waiting List if you want to play! (You'll be notified if a spot opens up for you!)

It was SO GREAT to be out on the courts with such a fun and enthusiastic group of SWOTTERS! Thanks to all for a delightful evening of tennis.

Kenton: I forgive you for hitting me in the back with your first serve if you forgive my double faults at 3 all!

“Because Ivan asked me” … This situation occurred on one of the courts tonight: if a ball hits the scoring pole, the player who hit it loses the point. Rule 13 states: If a ball in play touches a permanent fixture before it hits the ground, the player who hit the ball loses the point.

John, Good Job clarifying this point. Clearly 13.2 nails the point. Well done.

Great to be back playing tennis with SWOT. Back in England it has rained everyday for two months and just impossible to get on the Courts. That is why Jilly has moved here permanently. Lovely to resume playing and having fun with all my tennis mates. Fantastic to be MVP of the night! (Whatever that means?) Ivan you have a peach of a meet up group which will last until our legs give up. Thanks for the great welcome back, can't wait till the next meeting.

What an awesome night with the SWOTTERS! Surprisingly, the weather was near perfect, and we managed to fill the roster with 24 passionate players! 4 sets and 2+ hours of entertaining and highly competitive tennis! Tremendous points, filled with superb shot-making, plenty of laughter and outstanding sportsmanship displayed by all! We had the pleasure of welcoming two first-timers, Ozzie and John, who both epitomize that which our group reveres most: A great attitude, enthusiasm for the game, respect for the rules and a real passion for the camaraderie that comes with our brand of social tennis!! Hope you guys will join us again soon and often! Special thanks to all my partners: Tony, Kenton, Thomas and Basil - wonderful efforts from each of you!! And thank you to all who made it out the the BHB post-tennis for food, drinks and lively banter!! :)

This rule in contained within “Friend at Court” and there is a specific USTA comment that is right on point: Comment 13.2 asks and answers the question: “Who wins the point if a player hits a ball that hits an object attached to the net (such as a scoring device) and then lands in the proper court? The player who hit the ball loses the point because the ball hit a permanent fixture before landing in the court.

Footnote: If the ball in play hits the net post and goes in, the shot is good and the ball is in play. The net and net posts are considered part of the court and not “permanent fixtures.” However, if a serve hits the net post it is a fault (don’t ask me why – it seems inconsistent – but that’s the rule).

Thanks again for the fun, fun, fun!
