The Meetup organization contacted me congratulating me on being the organizer for one year after taking over duties from Steve Bloom. Steve actually started this group and is the one to get credit for his hard work in building it. I just tried to fill his shoes which is impossible to do!
This past year was spent trying to figure out what I was doing and getting the ball rolling again. I had some personal things, that took a lot of my time in the first half of the year and then I was able to devote some time to making contact with the managers of the comedy venues and establishing a relationship for the group. Almost every meetup scheduled offered either discounted or free tickets to the show which is a perk to being a member of this site.
Because I was still getting the group going, I didn't feel it was fair to charge membership dues. I have incurred the cost of the site and all related expenses to the group. Now it is time to start asking that the expense of the group be shared with members. It is only $20.00 a year for membership. You would get this back after attending a couple of discounted or free shows, It also shows a commitment to the group to come out and participate in the meetups. I decided to extend the trial period to 90 days. After 90 days, you must pay dues or you will be dropped from the site. We have over 400 members but I only see a handful come out to the meetups. I am working hard to schedule shows you would enjoy, get you good deals and to support our local talented comics as well. The more members, the better the deals. It's a form of publicity for the comics but they want a full house.
I would like to plan a one year celebration and opportunity to meet and mingle. I tried this last year and it didn't go. I will try again so be looking for it and please come out and meet others that share your interest in comedy and know that laughter IS the best medicine!!!
Keep smiling and laughing!
