Sailing in Portland Meetup Group

The Sailing in Portland Meetup Group promotes sailing opportunities, sailing education, practice and enhancement of sailing skills, sharing of information, and socializing among sailors and aspiring sailors in the Portland, Oregon, area and beyond.

To promote sailing opportunities, the Sailing in Portland group provides a forum for sailors to get together, those with boats and those without, to share sailing.

To promote sailing education, the Sailing in Portland group periodically offers an introductory sailing class (three in-class sessions, followed by one opportunity for on-the-water sailing). In the past this class was taught on Saturdays in February, but in the future it may shift to a summer class.

Students who finish the Sailing in Portland Meetup Group's introduction to sailing class, and who want to continue further in studying sailing, may have available to them the option to continue further study on more advanced sailing topics in a follow-up class that combines sailing opportunities with class session in order to practice techniques covered in class. Group members can always learn more by going sailing on different boats and perhaps taking American Sailing Association (ASA) or other classes.

NOTE: The Sailing in Portland Meetup Group policy requires that members use their real names (last names optional) as their meetup names and use clearly-recognizable, close-up photos of themselves as their group profile photo. Your face in the photo should not be obscured by a helmet or something else. Portrait, "head-shot", photos are best, and should show only you. If another person is visible so that it is not clear which person is you, your membership application will be declined . We feel that this is necessary because our group meetup events usually take place on our boats. Many boat owners like to be able to recognize who is coming for meetup events on their boats. CLICK HERE for further explanation of this policy and why.

If you apply for membership in the Sailing in Portland Meetup Group make sure that you are willing to meet this policy - use your real name and a clearly-recognizable close-up photo of you alone.
