December R Meetup

Derek Norton (http://www.linkedin.com/in/derekmccraenorton) will give two presentations at this month's meetup. First he will provide a short introduction to R (http://www.r-project.org). Then he will present, "Building extensions to RevoScaleR (http://www.revolutionanalytics.com/products/enterprise-big-data.php)", which will focus on a demonstration of using the RevoScaleR (http://www.revolutionanalytics.com/products/enterprise-big-data.php) building blocks to create functions for data mining.

Derek has a broad and deep background in analytics and currently helps organizations identify ways to maximize the value that can obtain from Revolution R Enterprise (http://www.revolutionanalytics.com/products/revolution-enterprise.php). One of his greatest strengths is his extensive experience building advanced statistical and machine learning models for a variety of applications from marketing to credit scoring, and the corresponding ability to put them into easily understood terms.

Derek has a passion for the R language, and has presented at multiple international UseR conferences on topics such as automated modeling and building an R presence in a SAS environment. He is also the founder and director of the Atlanta R Users Group (https://www.meetup.com/R-Users-Atlanta/). He holds both a BS and MS in Statistics focusing on Financial Econometrics and Data Mining and is currently wrapping up a PhD in Statistics focused on Data Mining.
