March Nonfiction Read & Critique Group
Details
In addition to our regular monthly meetings, the Nonfiction Authors Association now offers a free read & critique group for writers of all skill levels. Attendees must be willing to both read AND critique others' work at these sessions, which will be held on the last Saturday of each month.
Although this is a free group, those who wish to participate MUST RSVP in advance, in order to make sure there is enough time for all 6 critiques.
What is a critique? Critiques should be aimed at helping each writer improve their craft. Therefore, both positive and negative comments can be included, though all comments should be CONSTRUCTIVE, rather than mean-spirited. If you have never participated in a critique session or writing workshop before, please feel free to message me for additional details or with any questions you may have.
Some Guidelines: Pieces for critique must be submitted to the organizer via email by noon, one week before the actual meetup (deadline for this event is March 19th), in order to give participating writers time to read & critique all pieces. Each member may submit a maximum of 4 pages/1,000 words (double-spaced, in 12-point font) in order to keep things manageable. Participants will be limited to a small group of 6 to start (the first 6 to RSVP here - not including Laura, as the organizer of the event - will be included), thus ensuring enough time will be allotted to each writer. 15 minutes of oral group critique will be given to each writer during the 90-minute session, which will be strictly enforced. Bring your printed (hand- or typewritten) individual comments to give to each participating author in case we don't have time to discuss all points. And please feel free to stay after the session to further debate or discuss your critiques!
