Take the Power Back: Theming with Preprocess and Template.php with Rich RudzinskiThere is a lot of power available to front-end developers in Drupal. Drupal boasts an advanced php templating system that is very easy to use, but the real power of the theme layer lies in template.php. Template.php allows developers to manipulate the output of the theme layer right before it hits the php templates. This gives themers a lot of power to optimize the core output for their specific theme, without the need to build a custom module or hack Views. In this talk I will be giving a brief overview of preprocess and the power that it provides. We will review available functions and work through some common use-cases including: adding a body class to a certain node, overriding view/node output, adding template variables, creating custom templates, and overriding field output.
