This purpose of this Meetup is to build a community that provides practical, nuts and bolts support, inspiration, encouragement, education, and resources to those who are intending on launching a crowd funding campaign through Kickstarter.com. The keyword for this group is ACTION. We hope the Starters will be fully engaged through conversation, participation, and connection, and most importantly will see RESULTS.
Who it's for:
We invite anyone who intends on launching a Kickstarter and/or innovative product of any kind, and is looking for some guidance, resources, volunteers, creative talent, and support of any kind.
We also invite anyone who's had direct experience with Kickstarter, who can serve as a mentor or advisor to others. We probably can't have too many mentors, so if you want to “give back,” this is where you can do that. Whether or not your campaign was “successful” doesn’t matter; you have something of value to contribute to others from your experience. You will each also have an opportunity to present in front of the group. Even those who did not succeed will have an opportunity to present, and receive feedback from the group.
For you Starters, we're eager to hear about your ideas! Our hope is that, collectively, we can each support one another to see those ideas become a reality. You’ll each have an opportunity to share your creative project with the group or to individuals in private, if you don't feel like sharing it to the group yet. We hope that if you continue to come, that you will be moving forward in some demonstrative way with your idea. ALTERNATIVELY, if you want to get your feet wet by helping someone else with their campaign, this can be mutually beneficial to all parties. The reason for this is simple. This isn't a group for just spectators. It's for Starters.
The main objective of this group is to offer a truly nuts and bolts kind of community that can move you forward. We will be working on our own blog soon, which will have a more comprehensive (and searchable) profile page, to help you better connect with specific people who can help your campaigns.
Lastly, please familiarize yourself as much as possible with what Kickstarter is, and what it isn't. It tends to focus on innovative, product-based businesses, where something is produced as a result. And this group will be mainly focussed on that. If you have a rather conventional type business you are wanting to launch, this group is not a good fit. We will focus on creative projects (inventions, fashion, art, etc).
