We can carpool from here to the Metrolink station in Acton, meet the rest of the group, and continue driving up to Vincent Gap, our trailhead. PLEASE READ! From the Acton Metrolink, we will break into two groups. One for only Baden Powell (moderate) and a second group for Ross (advanced + 3 liters of water). Difficulty: Strenuous.
8 miles roundtrip for Baden Powell only,
13.5 miles roundtrip WITH Ross Mountain with a total of 4,800' elevation gain.
From Vincent Gap (6,593') parking lot we hike 4 miles up the 40+ switchbacks to the summit of Baden Powell, the 4th highest peak in So Cal, and break for a light lunch.
From here, you either return the same way to the parking lot & call it a day, or we continue hiking for 2.2 miles on a stunning ridge to Ross Mountain (7,402') offering some awesome views. From Baden Powell we drop 2,000' of elevation to reach Ross but gain it back on the way up back to Baden. Bagging Ross is one of the toughest hikes in the San Gabriels.
