We'll hike about a six-mile loop through Briones Regional Park against a stunning backdrop of green rolling hills and expansive views, including vantage points near Briones Peak (1,483 ft) and Mott Peak (1,424 ft). Bring lunch/snacks, layers, and water. Meet at the Old Briones Rd trailhead (near the farther parking lot) for a 10:30 am start.
Expect some muddy trails -- wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots and bring poles if you've got them.
Well-behaved dogs welcome! Bring leash and litter bags.
Rain cancels.
Driving directions: Take Hwy 24 through the Caldicott Tunnel to exit 9 (Orinda/Moraga). Take Camino Pablo north (toward Orinda) for about 2 miles, then turn right onto Bear Creek Rd and continue another 4.4 miles to the Bear Creek Staging Area on the right. (NOTE: You’ll pass an EBMUD staging area on the left just before you get there—don’t park there! Keep going.) The entrance is on the right. Hike begins at the trailhead by the parking area that's farther from the kiosk, not the first lot to your left (but we'll end the hike at the other lot so go ahead and park at either one!) There's a $5 per car parking fee.
