Under the direction of David Tanenbaum, the San Francisco Conservatory Guitar Ensemble performs regularly on campus and it appears often throughout Northern California. In fall 2000 the ensemble went on a three city tour with composer Steve Reich, performing Electric Counterpoint, and a year later it performed the U.S. premiere of Terry Riley’s Y Bolanzero. The ensemble has commissioned and premiered many works, including those by composers Steve Mackey, Jorge Liderman, Dan Becker, Belinda Reynolds and many student composers. The ensemble performed the U.S. premiere of 6x6x6 by Yiorgos Vassilandonakis when the composer was working in Berkeley, California, and at the GFA festival in Charleston last summer. In 2011 the ensemble recorded Measures of Turbulence by Steve Mackey for Naxos. Program: Renaud Quartet, Clarice Assad Quartet, Gutierrez, Reich
