The October 2013 Kiji meetup will be held Wednesday, October 23rd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This meetup will be hosted by Opower, located at 760 Market St 4th Floor, San Francisco, CA. Food and drinks will be served.

Opower Data engineers Eric Chang and Scott Scott Kuehn will be presenting, "Powering Energy Insights with Kiji." WibiData engineer Kiyan Ahmadizadeh will present "Faster Model Deployment with KijiExpress." These talks will include best practices and use cases for building and deploying real-time Big Data Applications on top of a Kiji-based Customer Data Platform. Following the presentations, there will be breakout sessions on a variety of topics, including Big Data Application Development and Big Data Science.

"Faster Model Deployment with KijiExpress"

KijiExpress is an open source tool for building ad-hoc data processing pipelines and for developing & deploying machine learning models. Express is built around Scalding (Scala + Cascading) and includes advanced features for defining ML model configuration. In this talk, Kiyan will introduce the concepts in KijiExpress and describe how it enables faster iteration on ML model development.

"Powering Energy Insights with Kiji"

Opower uses a variety of Kiji tools to power an energy insight platform capable of managing large amounts of energy data and providing insights that help people manage their energy use. In this talk, the Opower Data Services team will present their Kiji-based energy storage schema and provide an in-depth walk through of some of the Kiji tools that are currently used for analyzing energy usage data.
