http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/4/e/0/event_13130400.jpegJob search used to be a predictable process: Open the morning paper, look for suitable jobs, send cover letters and resumes, get interviews, and someone will hire you. In today’s job market, as we know, often that just doesn’t work.

Project management also used to be predictable: Make a good plan, follow it carefully, and you will succeed. That doesn’t work so well anymore either. Managing development of complex technologies requires a different approach:

Agile Methodologies
The means of achieving goals or completing a project
under conditions of uncertainty or change.

Landing a job is project management. Just as with software development, the job search process is full of uncertainty, twists and turns, opportunities coming out of left field, challenges and disappointments whacking us on the head.

This Tuesday we will be hands-on, learning and practicing agile techniques to:

Do less to achieve more Deal with interruptions and uncertainty Set attainable goals for yourself and evaluate whether they’re helping you or not Stay motivated. Join us to sharpen our skills at getting things done when you can’t predict what’s going to happen.

About Amy Lightholder

http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/7/8/5/2/event_231330802.jpegAmy has gotten very very good at landing on her feet. She’s an SFPCN member who successfully scored her current day job as Senior Agile Project Manager at Gap Inc. using the techniques that we will practice.

She spent the last fifteen years of her career facilitating the social adaption to emergent and disruptive technology. In this field, companies form and dissolve rapidly. Dramatic changes to both the job market and individual workplaces is not the exception but the norm.
