Re: [SFPCN] Should SFPCN change it's name?

I didn't even realize I'd transposed the words. My bad! That was unintentional. Other than maybe adding the "s" (with or without apostrophe) I vote to keep the PCN part.

I'd like to add a voice to what does seem to be the consensus, "PCN", but with a twist:

  • "Professionals Career Network" (or more grammatically correct I suppose, "Professionals' Career Network")
Jay's transposition is one that I continue to struggle with even after all this time-  "Uh, is it Career Professional Network or Professional Career Network?"  Making the reference to us in plurality helps clear up the word jumble.

Other points that I'd like to echo or get out:
  1. "SF" doesn't reflect the diversity of our group since we have significant membership from the Peninsula and East Bay
  2. "Inc" or any other legal entity status adds little to a name- while there are significant changes going on at the leadership level as a transitioning group, changing the name with every shift would be confusing or tiresome
  3. Rebranding needs to take into account the "equity" already established and we've got a base of 1,000+ people who came to know and class="mark">love the group as "PCN"
Thanks everyone,

I second the idea of keeping Career Professional Network. The only thing I might add is "Career Transitions Professional Network."

The consensus seems to be Professional Career Network and I too agree.  Career Networking Group, or Transitioning Network would also work.
These simple words are likely what would be input to a google search if one were looking for a networking group when transitioning to a new job,
and for this reason I think its essential that we be defined by who we are.

I also agree about the name.  I like Professional Career Network and we can drop the San Francisco part of the name.
Perhaps someday we will have groups in different locations and at that point they can be identified by the geographical area (example: PCN - South Bay, etc.)

I agree with J. Alex--stick with Professional Career Network. It's clear, it's precise, and it works across disparate industries.

I recommend staying away from anything that sounds too new-agey, or too technical; either direction may alienate certain groups.

Re-Branding is an awesome idea and should say what we stand for as an organization.
Past SFPCN programs have covered themes like: Change, Awakening New Possibilities, Setting the Stage, Developing Emotional Resilience, etc.
The overarching theme is developing, growing, and changing....reminds me of a leaf.

My suggestion:  A New Leaf!

Hi everyone,
As part of our organizational development initiative we are considering adopting a new name. Key word there is considering. We have a designer working on a new logo and website images but before we get too far we wanted to explore whether it might be a good time to re-brand ourselves.
That said, we want to crowdsource with our membership in uncovering possible new titles for our great group. We thought a name that identifies SFPCN as a cutting edge, 21st century professional development/networking/ transition company would be appropriate. Like Career Startup Inc. Or Career Inc. What's your idea? If you think the current name is the right one please share that with us also.
As the value of this exercise will be expanded by the sharing of ideas cross membership for one time only I ask that you reply to the whole group in order to spur ideas. I realize this will result in a infusion of SFPCN email in everyone's Inbox.
For those uninterested I apologize for the email Inbox intrusion but this is a case of the "we" trumping the "I". Just delete, delete, delete and it will be over in a couple, three days. Thanks for your patience!!
So what do you think? An appropriate name for a our group? Lets hear it!
