Scaling Riak to 25MM Ops/Day at Kiip

Details

After a few months off, we have a great talk lined up for this month. The team at Kiip (http://kiip.me/) will be on-hand to share some details on their move to Riak and PostgreSQL from MongoDB. (See below for full details.)

We are also fortunate to have a great location for this month's meetup: Orange Silicon Valley. The meetup will get started at 7 so try to arrive on time. Basho will be bringing the beer and pizza. Bring your hard questions.

Hope to see you on May 22nd.

Scaling Riak to 25MM Ops/Day at Kiip

Armon Dadgar, Software Engineer, Kiip

Scaling databases has always been a difficult problem. Next generation NoSQL solutions claim to replace the traditional vertical scaling solutions with horizontal scaling. At Kiip, we originally embraced MongoDB as the magic scaling solution, but quickly ran into engineering and design limitations prompting a search for other solutions. Ultimately, we chose to move to a split PostgreSQL + Riak stack. We'll discuss how we chose to use Riak, and what we learned doing the migration, modeling our data, and using Riak in production.
