Learn Twisted

Do you want to learn more about programming using Twisted?  Come to the learning session on Friday, July 13th, at 7pm.

There will be an introduction to Twisted by Glyph, followed by a short workshop tutorial.  Feel free to ask the Twisted developers questions about using Twisted in your project!

Several other core developers will be there to help!

This event is hosted by Rackspace San Francisco.  We are on Folsom St, between 2nd and Howard (which is between 2nd and 3rd).

    Hi,

Yes, feel free to put this on your blog. Actually, I have one correction to my previous post. "pypm install twisted" (i.e. lowercase 't'), works just fine.

I have written up a document which lists the Twisted installation steps for ActiveState Python, and placed it here:

    http://crodrigues.org/python/tw...

    Thanks.

craig: Wow, thank you very much for the streamlined instructions! May I use your instructions in another blog post?

The instructions my blog were originally for new developers that were going to hack on Twisted itself, and thus needed to build Twisted from source. You absolutely correct in that all the extra steps I had are not needed when using the ActiveState package manager, which is all that is needed to use Twisted as a library.

    Thanks again!

The lab sure beats the usual powerpoint presentation.

    STEP 1: Go to http://www.activestate.com/acti...

STEP 2: Install the 32-bit version of ActivePython (not 64-bit,
because looks like not all modules are available
    precompiled for 64-bit

STEP 3: After installing in STEP 2, open a Windows Command
    Prompt and type:

    pypm install Twisted
    (note the captital 'T')

Thanks for putting together this tutorial.
I really appreciate the help that Ying gave me for helping to
install Twisted under Windows, and her blog post at http://blog.ying.li/ . I would recommend that you change your recommended Windows instructions to not use the http://python.org version of Python for Windows, and not download mingw. Here is what I did to get things working:

Thank you everyone for your attendance and interest! It was fantastic meeting everyone, and we hope that it was useful in helping you understand a little more about Twisted!

Hi Daniel! I'm sorry, but this particular talk was not filmed, as we prepared as we liked. We hope to film the next one, though! And this event will be repeated.

    Hi everyone!

Sorry for the late notice, but a portion of tonight's event will be interactive. If you can, please bring a laptop with Twisted installed!

If you're on OS X, it's already part of the operating system, so you're set. If you're on Linux, if it's not already installed, please use your system package manager to install it. On Ubuntu, for example, this is just "sudo apt-get install python-twisted". On Windows, just use the installer linked on http://twistedmatrix.com/

I unfortunately won't be able to go. Will this talk be recorded in some form?

    July 13, 2012

  • Ying L.

Yes, we are definitely going to have a repeat! We are hoping at least once a quarter, but it depends on everyone's schedules.
