Details

Saturday, May 14, 10:00am

Join the Wild Equity Institute and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service on a guided tour of the Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge! This is an opportunity to visit a unique area normally closed to the public. The Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge is home to three highly endangered species: the Lange’s Metalmark Butterfly (http://wildequity.org/pages/3046), the Contra Costa Wallflower (http://wildequity.org/pages/3047), and the Antioch Dunes Evening Primrose (http://wildequity.org/pages/3048).

Join us to learn more about the history and ecology of this one of a kind ecosystem!

The hike is schedule to last about an hour.

Meet at the Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge Entrance Gate. From Hwy 4, take the “A St/Lone Tree Way.” exit. Head north onto A St. Turn right at Wilbur Ave. Turn left onto Fulton Shipyard Rd. Travel approximately 1/4 of a mile until you see a dirt pullout to your right and a chain-linked fence. There will be a sign identifying the refuge.

Wear sturdy shoes for this sandy 1.5 mile hike. No facilities.

You can learn more about the Wild Equity Institute's work to protect the Wildlife Refuge's endangered species here (http://wildequity.org/pages/3049).
