Hello all. Thanks to you, and the hard work of our assistant organizers, the success of our weekly gatherings is amazing. We regularly have 30 to 40 or more show up at Broadway Coffee on Wednesday evenings, and more and more of you are coming to our group dinner afterward. Last week we had 42 people at the coffeehouse, and about 35 at Do Rei Mi House for a delicious dinner, complete with free drinks (soft drinks, beer, and soju) courtesy of the restaurant's new owner, who used to be the organizer of the Korean Meetup.

The problem is that only 16 people RSVPed to let us know they were coming.

I understand that because this event happens every week at the same time and place, you may not feel it's necessary to confirm your attendance, but let me explain why this helps us.

First of all, our gatherings would not be possible without the kindness of Broadway Coffee and its owners. Finding a venue willing to host a meetup like ours is not easy. Few places want a group of 30 to 40 people taking over and perhaps alienating their regular customers. The owners use the RSVP count to know how many tables and chairs to set up for us. When 7 people RSVP and 35 show up, there is a mad dash to assemble more seating, which can be difficult because non-Meetup customers may already be sitting at other tables and it's hard to move the furniture through a crowd.

In addition, the low RSVP counts may scare off someone interested in attending for the first time. If, on Tuesday they see only a few people coming to the event (as is often the case), they may be less likely to attend than if they knew that there is always a large and welcoming crowd.

So please take the time to let us know you'll be coming. We really appreciate it.

This doesn't mean that if, at the last minute, you find yourself on Convoy but haven't RSVPed, that we won't let you in. We understand that occasionally you are not able to RSVP. But please, as much as possible, make the effort.

Thanks for listening...

...Tokyo Jim
