- How Sandstorm makes open source web apps viable
by Asheesh Laroia (Sandstorm core dev)
This 15-minute talk introduces Sandstorm, the motivations behind it, and how it works.
Abstract: Open source has been pretty successful on the desktop and mobile. On my laptop, I run Debian GNU/Linux. The fact that this choice is available to me and that I can run an all-open-source desktop without pain is pretty amazing considering how things looked fifteen years ago. Yet, somehow, the web today is nearly completely devoid of open source application software. The only solution is to make sure everyone has a server where they can safely install any software they want. That's what Sandstorm does.
- RethinkDB talk (TBD)
This 15-minute talk introduces RethinkDB, the open-source database for the realtime web. Details to be determined.
3+ Lightning talks: 5 minutes each - you can give one!
Suggest a topic, and nominate yourself or someone else as a speaker, by leaving a comment on this Meetup! Tell us about:
• Sandstorm success stories,
• Challenges & unresolved issues,
• Apps that would be great to see ported, or
• A feature or interface change that Sandstorm should really make.
• Whatever else strikes your fancy.
