Teressena Bakens, creator and illustrator of The Fifth Tarot, is also the author of Peace Moon and Teachings of the Serpent. Teressena works as a spiritual midwife, helping people heal and transform through Shamanic ceremony. She is a full-mesa carrier in a Peruvian lineage of shaman and a graduate of the Healing the Light Body School. Her path of shamanic study began with an Ojibwe Grandmother and Oneida Grandmother who shared their Native American wisdom with her. Teressena carries on these teachings by conducting women's full moon circles and facilitating workshops on the Goddess and the Divine Feminine. She has been a keynote speaker and presenter at several women's conferences and symposiums.

Martien Bakens is the author of The Fifth Tarot. He comes from a familial lineage of healers and is a shaman, energy worker and aromatherapist. Martien received his formal training in Europe in various holistic healing modalities in both Eastern and Western traditions. As an alchemist with extensive knowledge and intuitive wisdom of plant medicine, he blends oils, herbs and teas, attuning to the harmonics of the ingredients that will facilitate healing and spiritual awareness. Martien is also a photographer, celebrating the beauty of life.

For the past 15 years, Martien and Teressena have studied and received initiations with Mayan Master, Miguel Angel Vergara and Olmec elder, Jesus Fabian Ortiz. Together with these teachers and guides, they facilitate sacred journeys to Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. Martien and Teressena have been presenters at the London Tarot Symposium, the San Francisco Bay Area Tarot Symposium, The New York Reader's Studio, the World Mysteries Conference and The Way Beyond Conference.
