Some words from James: Santa Barbara County is home to both the San Rafael and Dick Smith Wildernesses. Here, within these natural lands are waterfalls, hidden potreros, pine covered mountains, old homestead sites, and miles of trails to explore. Many of these trails are ideally suited for multi-day treks. This talk will cover some of the best trails for making loop hikes and traverses through our local backcountry. Through its volunteer trail projects, the Los Padres Forest Association is working to help keep these trails open and accessible.

James Wapotich has hiked many of the trails in the southern Los Padres National Forest. He is a Volunteer Wilderness Ranger with the Forest Service, and the author of the Santa Barbara News-Press hiking column, Trail Quest.
