Santa Clarita Canyons to Wilson Saddle

Santa Clarita Canyons to Wilson Saddle

Details

Saturday, October 1- Santa Clarita Canyons to Wilson Saddle and back. This is an easy 6 mile hike with very little gain/loss. The best views in the Santa Clarita Valley are along this ridge. You will be able to see the SFV, the SCV and if it is clear, you will be able to see Catalina. If you want more of a workout, ask Dianne and she will give you an option that will add another 6 miles to your hike where you will visit Wilson Canyon in the San Fernando Valley, and then return via the same route. In addition to the views, you will see exotic pines, Red Penstemon, currants, gooseberries, cudweed asters, and lots of buckwheat. Bring a camera, snacks (lunch if you’re adding mileage on), poles, and lots of water. Dress a little warmer as it is always cooler and windier on the ridge. Meet at the Walker Ranch Trail head at 8:30AM, where we will leave cars and carpool to the actual trail head up on the ridge by Camp 9. DIRECTIONS: Exit SR-14 at Placerita Canyon Road. Turn right if you are coming from Valencia. Go about 4 miles (about 2 miles PAST Placerita Nature Center Entrance). You will see a Wooden Sign on the right that says “Walker Ranch”. Park in this turn out. Leader: Dianne
