The Santa Cruz - Safe Embrace - Meetup Group is intent on building a community of safe, respectful, like-minded people within and around Santa Cruz.

Safe Embrace is a thoughtfully designed skills building workshop which teaches essential communication skills that are practical and applicable in everyday life. These skills can be crucial in meeting very basic human needs for authentic, effective communication and nurturing, non-sexual touch and affection.

Safe Embrace Etiquette establishes a paradigm of understanding, security and respect which allows everyone to feel secure in the knowledge that we hold each other’s safety and well-being, both physical and emotional, in the highest regard.

Safe Embrace provides an opportunity to practice skills in a fun, non-sexual, social environment where participants are encouraged to communicate outside the box. Non-sexual touch can include hugs, hugging, cuddling, snuggling, spooning, massage, stroking hair, holding hands, etc. shared with clear, mutual consent and non-sexual intention.

Safe Embrace Etiquette:

·         Ask for and receive permission before touching others.

·         Remember touching is your choice. We invite everyone to respect their own boundaries and those of others.

·         Be absolutely clear in your responses to requests (“yes” or “no”). If you’re uncertain of your answer to a request, the answer is “no”. You can change your mind anytime you choose.

·         Clothing stays on. Please be clean and fragrance-free.

·         Celebrate and honor the agreements you have made within your committed relationships. Integrity keeps our community healthy and safe. 

·         Emotional expression is welcome. Together as a community, we co-create an environment of physical safety, mutual respect and compassionate communication.

·         Respect people’s privacy when sharing about your Safe Embrace® Meetup experience.

·         If an issue arises, ask Elaine or Rob for help. We are available to address any concerns and answer questions both during and following the event.
