Wildwood Canyon Park in Burbank
Let's try this again.
Hello fellow hikers, this week we'll be doing a hike in Burbank. We haven't done this workout for a while and, believe me, it is a workout. Some of you have heard of it, some of you don't want to hear of it, some of you are afraid of it and 99% of you won't even keep reading this once you know I am leading it.
This killer hike has been affectionately nicknamed "The Heroes March" by our group, but it is also known in certain circles as "The Death March". It's a very advanced hike and will take you 2 1/2 - 3 hours to complete. However, if you're a beginner, or if you don't have time to complete the full hike, you can just go partway and then turn around.
This is one of the hikes we use to train to climb Mt. Baldy. This is a steep inclined trail most of the way. There is no shade going up so bring a hat and plenty of water. If you decide to do this hike I recommend you take some time to have all your legal affairs in order, your will, make peace with your maker, etc.
Once we reach the top we will be going downhill the rest of the way on the fire road and end up at the STOUGH CANYON NATURE CENTER. We will be enjoying some amazing views of Burbank and Glendale, so do bring your camera for some group photos. Also, be sure to bring some snacks to reward yourself and to share with the group once we reach the top.
At the top, there is a bench that gives you a beautiful unobstructed view of the city, one so removed that the cars belching out smog and cutting each other off below look like nothing more than a symphony of movement; it is very peacefully, serene.
Since the hike does not end in the same place it begins, I am also asking for two or three volunteers who can meet a little earlier so that we can caravan people back to their cars after the hike. (It is only a 3 minute drive from the end of the hike back to the cars.) You would need to meet me at STOUGH CANYON NATURE CENTER by 7:45am.
Please send a note if you can help out. You can do that by going to my Meetup profile page. Please DO NOT use the global email feature.
Heavy rain Friday night or Saturday am will cancel this hike.
See you there,
