ECHO MOUNTAIN

Hello fellow hikers. This week we'll climb up to Echo Mountain (Mountain, mountain, mountain).
This is one of my favorite hikes for many reasons. In 1893 it was the world's first mountain-incline railway powered by electricity with a spectacular hotel at the top. It was probably the foremost tourist attraction in SoCal at the time.
This amazing hike ends at the ruins of the old hotel and railway. This is an intermediate-to-advanced hike. We'll walk along the edge of the mountain all the way up with very few shady spots. The views are spectacular and the trail well maintained. Well worth the climb to the top to see the old hotel ruins and amazing views!
Once we reach the top, we are going to look around at all the historical photos & artifacts. You may also want to bring some snacks to share with fellow hikers. We will go back the same way we came up.
Distance to this point: 2.5 (5 miles round trip)
Elevation Gain: 1400 ft.
You should allow around three hours to get to the hotel ruins and back again.
Bring plenty of water, some snacks. Let's meet a few minutes earlier so we can do our stretching and get on with our hike right at 8am, it will get hot pretty quick.
Any rain Friday night or Saturday morning will cancel this hike.

Directions:
Take the 210 East or West to Lake Avenue, and turn North.
Go all the way up to the end of Lake and then find street parking on Lake or E. Loma Alta.
We'll meet at the trail-head, but please be aware that this is a residential area, so let's keep our voices down until we hit the trail.
