Our second meetup for Scalability London is kindly being hosted by the team at Betfair - it's great office with some great facilities and smart people. They are also kindly putting on the Beer and Pizza! Many thanks to Richard and Emily @Betfair for hosting and helping set this one up.
There is a lot of focus on monitoring, alerting and trending and the larger the complexity or scale the more expensive it can become in time and money. After our last meet up a number of us were discussing these challenges and decided it would be an interesting topic for us to cover. Often the issues with implementing tools are less to do with technical challenges but the human factor and both presentations will cover a little of that too.
We have two 30 minute presentations on Wednesday 30th April which should be very interesting. I know I'm excited.
We have two members of the SRE team from Betfair covering how they use OpenTSDB to capture metrics from their wide range of services - in excess of 25k datapoints per second and scalable to significantly more. They will also talk about the extra efforts they are making to surface this data in a usable way for alerting and trending.
18 months ago Ticketmaster investigated LogStash as an alternative to another well known log analysis tool. Two members from the Systems Engineering team will talk about the architecture we used and what the issues were to index over 1.5TB of logs per day using this technology.
Of course there will be change for beers afterwards and we can continue in a pub round the corner when we hit the curfew in BetFair HQ.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
All the best,
