Berkeley, Vedanta, and Tantra: connections

We will discuss points of similarity and contrasts between the philosophies of George Berkeley (subjective idealism), Shankara (Advaita Vedanta), and the Tantra. The philosophies share the notion of the immanence of the divine in the manifest world, and the primacy of the consciousness. But they arise from very different traditions.

This will be the penultimate seminar in this series. The last one will be the following Thursday, 20th September, when tantrika Roxana Hewett will give an introduction to "Tantra - A Non-Dual Path".

As usual a £4 donation would be appreciated to cover the room hire.

Note that next week, on 19th September, Dr Steve Minett will commence his series of five seminars on "Theories of Consciousness"

This will also be at the North London Buddhist Centre.

Was not at all well on the day so unable to attend, unfortunately. Many thanks for all the meetups, Peter. I always felt inspired and energised by these events. Please let me know when you run some more.

It was great. I found it very interesting, and so appreciate how you explain complex ideas in a very clear, simple and fun way.

    Garry,

13th = me talking about connections from Berkeley & Vedanta (which we have discussed in past seminars) to Tantra (which Roxana will talk about in the next seminar)

20th = Roxana Hewett will talk about Tantra and Nonduality, which she has studied and practised in depth.

Apologies for the confusion about dates. (Roxana was originally booked for 13th but had to postpone to 20th.)

    Peter
